Swimming with Alligators by John Gerstner

$5,500.00

This striking painting presents a figure floating serenely on a body of water, arms outstretched as though in surrender or peaceful drift. The figure’s body is painted in a bold orange, standing in sharp contrast to the surrounding blue water. The head is starkly white with no detail—its face nearly devoid of features, save for the abstract suggestion of eyes and a nose, leaving much to the viewer’s imagination.

Between the figure’s right arm and leg lurks the distinct form of an alligator’s head, creating an unnerving yet compelling juxtaposition. The alligator’s presence introduces an element of tension, as if danger lies just beneath the calm surface, but the floating figure appears unfazed, completely still, hovering between tranquility and latent threat.

The painting’s minimalist, almost abstract style is startling, inviting questions about vulnerability, survival, and the delicate balance between peace and peril.
