Entanglements by John Gerstner

$3,550.00

In Entanglements, a woman rests her head on her outstretched arm, her neck bent at an extreme 90-degree angle. Though her posture might suggest discomfort, her serene expression and closed eyes convey a sense of inner calm, as if lost in deep contemplation, detached from her surroundings. Her other arm forms a similar right angle at the elbow, and her hand gently clutches her stomach—a gesture that conveys both self-protection and vulnerability. The background, with its soft bands of gray, yellow, and blue, evokes a sense of ambiguity, perhaps reminiscent of a beach and ocean. This allows the viewer to focus on the woman’s “entanglements” of life. Her posture reflects the duality of feeling both defensive, as if guarding her core, and yet open to the possibilities of growth and change. The painting suggests an equilibrium between self-preservation and readiness for new opportunities, inviting the viewer to contemplate their own entanglements of life.
